Former Assistant Professor of English :: Department of English
Stephen Osadetz is an Associate of the Department of English and the Faculty Director of “The Digital Humanities in Practice,” an online course in development at HarvardX. He was an assistant professor in Harvard’s Department of English from 2014 to 2019. He teaches and writes about eighteenth-century literary and intellectual history, often with the use of digital methods. As the director of the Open Books project, he is developing a search engine that finds ideas in books, rather than keywords. His current book project, On Principle: Newton to Coleridge, is about the Enlightenment’s obsession with encapsulating whole disciplines of knowledge in single sentences.
